It is well documented that the standard MX5 NC rear wheel bearings are prone to failure when traction is increased through using wider and stickier track-focused tyres which if happens, can be catastrophic.
The simplest and most cost-effective fix is to swap your MX5 rear hubs and drive shafts for RX8 items whilst performing the RX8 differential swap upgrade. Other options exist on the market from Mazda Motorsports and some independents in the USA but nothing exists over here in the UK. Importing these upgraded solutions becomes cost-prohibitive once you've paid import taxes and shipping rates and are often out of reach of the track day enthusiast or club-level racer.
An alternative is the use the MX5 NC differential with RX8 hubs giving the benefit of the stronger hubs without changing your gear ratio or increasing weight too much. To do this some work is required to create a frankenstein pair drive shafts with specific RX8 drive shafts.
Whichever option you're considering we can help and advise and we have parts available in our shop to make the process as easy as possible for you. Take a look in our shop or get in touch for a bespoke package or installation service.
